Gravel Driveways

Cost-effective, permeable gravel driveways

Gravel is one of the most affordable and naturally permeable driveway surfaces there is — quick to lay, easy to top up, and available in a wide range of stone types and colours. Its only real drawback, loose stones spreading and rutting, is solved with a stabilising grid system.

Classic Stone Driveways installs gravel driveways across Denton, Manchester and the North West. We prepare a proper sub-base and, where wanted, lay a cellular gravel grid so the stone stays put, the surface stays level and it holds up to everyday driving.

FAQs

Gravel Driveways — frequently asked questions

How do you stop gravel spreading everywhere?
A cellular gravel grid is the answer — the gravel sits inside a honeycomb structure that locks it in place, so it doesn’t migrate, rut or scatter onto the road. We also fit proper edge restraints to contain the surface.
Do gravel driveways need planning permission?
Because gravel is naturally permeable, it’s generally exempt from the planning rules that apply to impermeable surfaces over 5m² — one of its big advantages. We’ll confirm the right build-up for your site.
How much maintenance does gravel need?
Loose gravel benefits from an occasional rake to level it and a top-up every few years. Grid-stabilised gravel needs even less — the grid keeps it in place and level.
What areas do you cover?
We install gravel and grid-stabilised driveways across Denton, Manchester and the wider Greater Manchester and Cheshire area. Book a free survey and we’ll come to you.
